A photo-essay from Yelahanka — Applied Visual Anthropology
This is a curated set of postcards for my studio “Postcards And Visual Anthropology: Visual Histories In Flux”
EMBRACING FLUX
Concept Note: This set of postcards narrate a story of Old Yelahanka that touches time and embraces every bit of it. With silicon valley to its immediate, the Yelahanka town is gradually moving to urbanisation. Little remains of each time can be seen easily while taking a stroll in Yelahanka.
The city has grown in many ways. And like a mother, it has embraced every change without demeaning the past. One can find the beauty of this embracement in many places. Whether it is a weighing machine or a telephone booth from older times, broken billboards seen from the flyovers or LED displays showing the transitions, static objects or that in motion, each tells a unique story of its time and stance.
We later had an exhibition where a curated set of postcards from each participant was showcased.
Some pictures from the exhibit.
Note: This collection is purely a portrayal of how I saw and perceived Yelahanka in few gazes. A deeper and critical representation would be to involve with the community and understand how they think about these spaces, objects and activities.
